As Dorothy once said after her trip to Oz with Toto, “There’s no place like home.” I have to agree with her in so many ways. 

I live in a 150-year-old Victorian with a hidden stairwell that ends in a ceiling, a wardrobe/closet to Narnia in an attic room for children, along with an abundance of faie creatures, dragons, assorted grandchildren, and a recent influx of great-grands. My office has a view across the Columbia River to the Washington mountains, which is not only inspirational but calming.

I’m often asked, “What do you write?” I write in multiple genres, which please me, and what I would like to find in a bookstore or library. I write historic coming-of-age fiction, which includes murder, mayhem, and the citizens of Faie worlds. I’ve also won international awards and publications for science fiction, children’s fables, fantasy, fiction, the dispatch of villains, general mayhem, and again, the Faie, good and not so good, as well as assorted dragons and quirky witches. I am told that these actually fall under the genre umbrella of speculative fiction.

The topics I write about determine the general age of my readers. I like to think I write with the inspiration of CS Lewis: “A children’s story which is enjoyed only by children is a bad children’s story.” I try to write across age limitations, following in the footsteps of JK Rowling, JRR Tolkien, Ursula K LeGuin, and others. I strive for hope in a dark world, peace even amongst turmoil, and a story that a whole family can engage in and enjoy within their individual maturity levels.
